Insulin Resistance in HIV Lipodystrophy Syndrome

The identification of an increased incidence of insulin resistance among HIV-infected patients has raised concern that this population in general, and individuals with evidence of fat redistribution in particular, may be at increased risk for developing diabetes and cardiovascular disease. In this article, we will review the incidence and potential clinical consequences of and therapeutic strategies for insulin resistance in HIV disease.
