Four Patients Contract HIV Through Organ Transplants
Four people contracted both HIV and hepatitis C virus (HCV) through solid-organ transplants this year, according to the Chicago Tribune. The transplants took place at three different hospitals in January, with the organs coming from a single high-risk donor whose true infection status was determined only recently. Further investigation is ongoing.
